This is the debut single from Independent Artist, Rob Mattson. A song that explores the mundane conversation of daily life when the truth is not told. You'll hear the twang of that Bakersfield sound mixed with chiming background guitars and a sprinkle of three part harmonies in this clever hooked single, Kinda Pretty Good (Ain't Too Bad).

Hi! I'm Rob Mattson

Welcome to my site

I am glad you stopped by to check it out. I am a family and career man. I am married to Mary Mattson and we have two grown children, Trevor and Erika as well as our golden retriever, Finley. As a Chiropractic Sports Physician since 1990, I’ve served the Ely, MN area and have been a 2 time Team Doctor for the USA Barefoot Waterski Team at World Championships located in Sydney AUS and Fergus Falls MN USA. I served 24 years as the Ely Boys Varsity Basketball Team’s Sports Chiropractor and reffed high school football for 20 years. I recently retired from the Eagles Nest Fire Department after 30 years of service, attaining the rank of Assistant Chief. Restoration of hot rods and motorcycling are hobbies of mine.

This is a new adventure for me in this digital domain, but I am no stranger to music. I first started playing guitar at the age of 5.

My brother, Don, first taught me chords...E, A and B7 and encouraged me to make those chords sound good, and not worry about speed. He was at that time the bass player for Marvin Rainwater and the Bluebirds with songs, Gonna Find Me a Bluebird and Whole Lotta Woman. My first song I played and sang was, Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast performed by Wayne Newton.

I grew up in a family of strong faith, and played guitar nearly every Sunday or when family friends dropped by for a visit. These friends were accomplished musicians and I tried to glean as much from them as possible. A strong, friendly influence for me outside of the family was Tim Patterson, a lead guitar player who gigged and palled around with Don. He once told me, after he finished a guitar solo, to jump in and take a chance at the lead part. Listening to family friend John Thompson, a Minnesota Guitar Picker of the Year, was certainly an eye opener on how an individual can be proficient on multiple instruments.

As the music developed in the family, we started playing in many communities and churches within the Arrowhead region of Minnesota. This experience showed me how music affects the listener. Music has been a blessing to me from the Lord and I am hoping that it will do the same for others.

I've had a blast with music...the launching point was the junior high talent show bands, and our family band, The 42nd Generation.  Years of playing with praise and worship band, FreshFire, in South Central Minnesota including SonShine Festivals, to a dozen years traveling the MidWest with Pat Surface and the Boundary Water Boys are cherished, fun memories. 5 years with 5-Oh!, an instrumental Swing, Pop-classic standards, Hawaiian, Surf and Twang music group, featuring Midwest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Bill Bulinski and Grammy winning steel guitarist, John Ely, and with me currently playing lead guitar with Big T and the Growlers, revealed to me the benefits of professionalism and fun.

My music repertoire is diverse and has a goal of reaching the listener so they have a good time, blessing them beyond the event and creating a lasting memory. I will have original songs that traverse the musical spectrum as well as tastily thought out and executed covers that I hope you'll like. Peruse the site often, as I will update it with new tunes and more content like video. Again, thanks for dropping by!!
